Engineering Assistant

Position G/R32531P, Department Housing‑Facilities‑Maintenance, University Housing, Athens, Georgia.

Employment type:

Student Assistant. FLSA Non‑Exempt. FTE .50. Anticipated start date: 05/12/2026.

Position Summary

The Engineering Assistant works closely with the Facilities Engineer for University Housing. The primary purpose of the position is to assist in engineering projects as assigned. The position also assists in crisis management situations and enforces university and departmental policies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in engineering analysis including reviewing data, making engineering calculations, drafting and other engineering tasks.
  • Conduct research to find solutions to specific engineering challenges within the department and report findings both orally and in writing.
  • Assist in producing reports outlining project progress or recommendations.
  • Develop and assist in presentations for engineering projects.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation of work accomplished.
Qualifications
  • Accepted into the College of Engineering.
  • In good standing with the University and University Housing (no disciplinary violations).
  • Enrolled at least half‑time at the University of Georgia when classes are in session (minimum six credit hours of undergraduate or professional students, five for graduate students). May not exceed 20 hours of work per week across all student staff positions; may exceed when classes are not in session and permission is granted.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours of desk shifts per week, including overnight shifts, weekends, academic breaks, and holidays.
  • Qualify for a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive as needed.
  • Must be available to work during home football games as needed.
