Job Description

The Bureau of Survey and Certification (BOSC) has an opening for a Health Care Facilities Field Surveyor Supervisor 2. As the supervisor of surveyors, your impact reaches beyond each resident into connected lives of caregivers, friends, and families.

What You'll Do
  • Supervise assigned health care facilities surveyor supervisors (field managers) and other staff.
  • Plan and coordinate survey and inspection activities for long‑term care and acute and continuing care providers and suppliers, including state licensure, federal certification, complaints investigations, and licensure activities not requiring onsite visits.
Staff Management & Supervision
  • Approve workload scheduling, leave requests, and travel itineraries of staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to lead and guide activities.
  • Monitor field staff performance on site and initiate investigations or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Conduct probationary and annual performance evaluations.
  • Provide orientation to new staff and monitor training progress.
  • Train assigned field managers on survey processes.
  • Timely notify supervisor of staff problems or facility issues that may jeopardize performance measures.
Survey & Compliance Oversight
  • Review survey inspection documentation prior to transmittal to providers, suppliers, CMS, or central files.
  • Review deficiency citations.
  • Recommend corrective action plans to address deficient practices.
  • Make recommendations for licensure or enforcement action.
  • Work with staff of other agencies to facilitate effective review of survey findings and resolve consumer complaints.
  • Oversee the gathering of evidence for cases that may involve legal action.
  • Provide expert testimony as survey manager before judicial bodies when necessary.
Communication & Public Engagement
  • Communicate with providers and complainants.
  • Prepare and deliver speeches to community groups, providers, suppliers, consumers, or other agencies.
  • Draft letters in response to public or legislative queries or requests.
Strategic Planning & Bureau Operations
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to supervisor regarding bureau needs, changes in goals and objectives, operating budget projections, and procedures.
  • Research special problems, evaluate data, and recommend appropriate action when assigned.
Unusual Working Conditions

Potential to travel twelve (12) months per year, including some overnight travel, regardless of weather conditions.

Training and Development Requirements

Renewal of licensure, certification, or registration pertinent to assigned discipline as mandated by Ohio Revised Code.

Qualifications

Certification, licensure, or registration commensurate with assigned discipline (e.g., registered nurse, licensed dietician, licensed social worker, registered environmental health specialist, licensed nursing home administrator, licensed pharmacist, licensed physical/occupational/speech therapist) AND 6 months experience as Health Care Facilities Field Surveyor Supervisor 1 (61585) or Health Care Facilities Office Surveyor Supervisor 1 (61595). Must be able to provide own transportation.
