Position Overview

Under limited supervision, performs Radiation Protection job functions as assigned by the Radiation Protection Manager (RPM) and Project management. Typical job responsibilities are to assist and support management in evaluating, monitoring and interpreting levels of radiation and contamination at the PORTS site, determining appropriate preventative measures to limit exposure of site personnel, data collection and analysis, and ensuring that site operations are conducted in accordance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements and procedures.

  • Provide direct oversight to Radiation Protection Supervisors, Radiation Protection Engineers and indirect oversight of Radiation Protection Leads and Radiological Control Technicians.
  • Plan, schedule and organize work to ensure utilization of employees and compliance with all contract requirements, quality standards and budgetary guidelines.
  • Ensure staffing levels of supervised personnel are maintained to allow effective execution of the assigned scope of work.
  • Instruct employees on work methods and performance expectations.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to subordinate personnel.
  • Maintain close working relationship with senior management and/or operational management to ensure radiological control services are properly executed and company needs are met.
  • Interface with groups inside and outside the organization, senior management, auditors and client representatives.
  • Develop or review/update various plans, policies or procedures as needed.
  • Responsible for personnel actions and performance appraisals.
  • Manage some budgetary responsibilities.
  • Direct all activities associated with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems.
  • Develop training programs for site personnel involved in radiological control work and assist in establishing operation standards.
  • Be capable of understanding and performing methods and processes.
  • Participate in planning experiments related to measurements of radioactive materials.
  • Make recommendations for corrective measures to reduce contamination when detected.
  • Plan day‑to‑day activities of the Radiation Protection team.
  • Respond to radioactive spills and contaminated personnel.
  • Generate reports for management.
  • Be proficient in a wide variety of Radiation Protection support tasks.
  • Lead training of less experienced technicians.
  • Perform a variety of complex and difficult tasks.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Engineering Manager (Possible Assignment)

Under limited supervision, performs Radiation Protection job functions as assigned by the RPM and Project management; responsible for supporting the development and oversight of the implementation of the DOE‑approved Radiation Protection Program (RPP) under 10 CFR 835.

  • Oversight of RP Program staff.
  • Develop and support management in evaluating, monitoring, and interpreting radiation and contamination levels at the PORTS site.
  • Determine appropriate preventative measures to limit exposure of site personnel, environment, and the public.
  • Support programmatic aspects to ensure RP programs support accurate data collection and analysis, and site operations are compliant with contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide program support to assigned Radiation Protection Section Managers, Supervisors, Engineers and indirect support to Leads and Radiological Control Technicians.
  • Plan, develop, perform Management Assessments, schedule and integrate radiation protection program elements.
  • Ensure site radiological instrumentation inventory is adequate and calibrated.
  • Manage some budgetary responsibilities.
  • Provide technical oversight of basis document and procedure development.
  • Responsible for personnel performance actions and performance appraisals.
  • Support development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems for the RPP.
