The Director, Programs and Partnerships will play a key role in helping bi3, a Grantmaker in Health, achieve its mission to transform health for all people in Greater Cincinnati. Since 2010, bi3 has awarded more than $89 million to Tri Health and community-based organizations to fuel health equity and innovation. bi3 leverages its strategic partnership with Tri Health and partners with community-based organizations to fuel innovative solutions to deep‑stated community health issues.

bi3 envisions a day when every person has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible — a day when a person's health can no longer be predicted by race, ethnicity, ability, or zip code. bi3 is a philanthropic initiative created by Bethesda Inc. to leverage its investment assets to drive innovation in healthcare and improve community health outcomes for all.

The core responsibilities of the Director, Programs and Partnerships include: carrying out the day‑to‑day functions of grantmaking; cultivating and building trust‑based relationships with grantees, community partners, and other important stakeholders; identifying and nurturing opportunities for bi3 to invest in projects and collaborations that are aligned with bi3’s strategic priorities, including Accelerating Birth Equity, Improving Youth Mental Health and Fueling Health Equity and Innovation at Tri Health;

and leading and managing a portfolio of grantees dedicated to improving health and reducing health disparities in Greater Cincinnati.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of education
  • 2-3 years experience in related field
Job Responsibilities
  • Build trusted relationships with bi3 grantee partners, bi3's strategic partner Tri Health and the Greater Cincinnati community.
  • Support grantmaking process: prepare funding opportunities and materials including Requests for Proposals; prepare presentations, written summaries and recommendations for review and action by the bi3 Committee and Bethesda Inc. Board of Trustees; work with the Grants Manager to onboard new grant partners including financial and contractual requirements.
  • Foster learning: provide grantees with support, capacity building, technical assistance and coaching as needed; convene grantees and key stakeholders as appropriate to achieve bi3’s mission and vision; contribute to Learning Series papers, articles, and other bi3 communication methods to highlight grantee accomplishments and learning and bi3's role in sparking transformational change in community health; research innovative models and stay abreast of the work of other health funders;

    research and explore health data and trends to identify promising approaches to address critical issues.
  • Evaluate programs and partnerships: work with VP, Evaluation and Impact, to capture and communicate grantee learning and impact; engage in regular communication with grantees, keeping close track of milestones, deliverables, and reporting requirements while managing the power dynamic between funder and grantee.

bi3 seeks a candidate that is highly motivated and curious, enjoys working with a wide variety of people and can see opportunities in people, programs and/or organizations that are aligned with bi3’s priorities and interests. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and/or experience in philanthropy and health, preferably with a focus on relationship management and/or program administration. An understanding of the healthcare environment and community health needs would be an asset.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and a willingness to learn bi3’s grants management system (Foundant).
