Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) is a non-profit organization spanning four states that creates positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service. The Outreach Worker will assist with services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness outside the Watterson Expressway. In tandem with other members of the VOA Home team, the Outreach Worker will assist clients in accessing medical and mental health services, emergency and long-term housing, substance abuse services, and social services. Outreach Workers work within a harm reduction and person-centered model.
WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE FOR THIS ROLE- This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field or at least five (5) years of experience in the field and no degree would qualify for this position.
- Requires a demonstrated ability to provide a reasonable combination of the following knowledge, abilities and skills: family needs assessment, knowledge and ability to access local resources, advocacy, counseling, and working cooperatively with local service providers. Must have a commitment to the principles of the project.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high degree of organization, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Must have a personal automobile, valid driver’s license, liability insurance, and be willing and able to travel within the full-service area.

- 1. Provides outreach to community partners and represents VOA values in interactions with community partners to increase awareness of and recruit landlords to work with our client families in the program.
- Perform assessment and developing/monitoring case plans and conducting necessary follow-up activities.
- Establish linkages with appropriate agencies and service providers in the area/community.
- Provide referrals and coordinating with community partners and other service providers to assist participants in accessing health care services and daily living services.
- Decide how resources are allocated to participants on the basis of need and eligibility, according to grant guidelines.
