Store Team Member – Responsibilities & Qualifications

As a Store Team Member at Pet Supplies Plus, you'll help create an exceptional shopping experience for every customer and their pets. If you enjoy working with people, love animals, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this role offers a variety of rewarding responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Throughout your day, you may:

• Assist customers in selecting the right toys, treats, food, and pet supplies.

• Answer questions about pet nutrition by comparing products and explaining ingredients.

• Help fit pets with harnesses, collars, and other accessories.

• Educate customers on responsible pet ownership and animal care.

• Operate the cash register and process transactions accurately.

• Stock shelves and maintain well-organized merchandise displays.

• Care for in-store animals by feeding them, cleaning habitats, and ensuring their well-being.

• Provide friendly, knowledgeable service while creating a welcoming environment for every customer.

Areas of Focus

While Store Team Members often perform a variety of tasks, they may specialize in one or more of the following areas:

Cashier

• Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently.

• Promote the Preferred Pet Club membership and inform customers about available offers and rewards.

• Deliver outstanding customer service at checkout.

Stock Associate

• Safely unload delivery trucks using proper equipment.

• Replenish shelves to keep products fully stocked and organized.

• Assist customers by carrying heavy purchases, such as pet food, cat litter, aquariums, and other large items, to their vehicles.

Pet Care Associate

• Provide daily care for in-store pets, including feeding, cleaning habitats, and handling animals safely.

• Answer customer questions about pet care, behavior, and habitat needs.

• Help customers choose the right pet and supplies for their lifestyle.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will:

• Enjoy working with both people and animals.

• Deliver exceptional customer service with a positive, team-oriented attitude.

• Be dependable, flexible, and willing to assist teammates whenever needed.

• Learn about pet care and product knowledge to confidently assist customers.

• Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

• Be able to perform physical tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting approximately 40–65 pounds.

• Be at least 16 years of age.

• Successfully complete a drug screening where required by state law.
