DESCRIPTION
The Forklift Mechanic’s main responsibility is to evaluate and repair all mobile equipment and forklifts at the plant. This candidate must be able to inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain all makes and models of material handling equipment. The role also involves communicating to management what parts are needed and ordering parts so equipment can be repaired.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Ability to interpret blueprints.
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as forklifts.
- 2+ years of prior industrial maintenance experience.
- Hydraulic and electrical background experience.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Ability to read work orders and specifications to determine forklift and other material handling equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
- Ability to repair tools and small engines.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Disassemble forklifts prior to maintenance work.
- Reassemble forklifts after completing repair or maintenance work.
- Start forklifts and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
- Inspect or test damaged forklifts, mark defective areas, or advise supervisors of repair needs.
- Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to forklifts, according to specified procedures.
- Dismantle forklifts and remove parts for repair, using specified tools.
- Record production, repair, and forklift maintenance information.
- Communicate with management regarding parts needed and order parts to enable repairs.
- No required travel.
- May be required to work overtime as needed.
- Lift, slide, push, pull or otherwise manipulate up to fifty pounds by hand; objects over this weight limit require manipulation by crane or other device.
