Elk Grove Village, Illinois (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community that is home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking a candidate for the position of Fire Inspector for the Inspectional Services Division.
Elk Grove Village is located in Cook and DuPage Counties adjacent to O’Hare International Airport and is home to approximately 5,400 businesses in its 5.4-square-mile Business Park.
The Fire Inspector is under the general supervision of the Director of Community Development or their designee. The Fire Inspector performs fire protection duties intended to identify and correct fire code violations, to reduce the hazards within a building. The primary roles of this position are to (1) conduct permit based fire inspections of structures and fire protection systems with approved site plans and specifications and (2) conduct annual life safety fire inspections of businesses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct onsite inspections of residential dwellings, multi-family residential dwellings, institutional, commercial, and industrial structures.
- Conduct inspections of fire protection systems, including sprinklers, alarms, and fire pumps, to ensure proper functionality and compliance with fire safety codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports by advising contractors of violations and identifying corrections that need to be made to achieve compliance with fire safety codes and standards.
- Provide technical assistance to developers, contractors, and design professionals regarding fire safety systems.
- Maintain permit and fire inspection records in Village software.
An Associate’s Degree in Fire Science or Fire Technology, or a related field preferred; three (3) or more years of experience in industrial fire inspections; or an equivalent amount of education, training, and experience is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSPossession of a valid State of Illinois driver’s license and a safe driving record is required. Must possess Office of Illinois State Marshal Certified Fire Inspector I, Office of Illinois State Marshal Certified Basic Fire Prevention Officer, and/or Office of Illinois State Marshal Certified Fire Prevention Officer; or an equivalent combination of certifications/licenses; or be able to obtain one of these certifications/licenses within the first six (6) months of employment.
HOURSOF WORK
40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8a.m. – 5p.m.
PAY RANGE$39.68 - $53.97 per hour
ON-SITE POSITIONThis is an in-person role with no remote work options.
