Overview
Operates assigned coaches (e-van or bus) in the Elk Grove Service Area to ensure safe and timely transport of passengers. Responsibilities include inspecting coaches, maintaining designated route schedules, assisting passengers, and completing required reports. The Elk Grove Service Area employs both Full-Time and Part-Time employees; candidates start as Part-Time with potential to move to Full-Time based on seniority.
Responsibilities- Operate assigned coaches by following safe, defensive driving practices.
- Maintain schedules, follow prescribed routes, collect fares, validate passes, operate radio, make announcements, and enter announcements into the automated system.
- Perform special services assignments such as coach bridges, fill-in services, and acting as a replacement driver when needed.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspections, identify potential safety concerns, and promote passenger safety awareness.
- Report coach trouble/malfunctions, traffic problems, road hazards, and accidents.
- React to and manage passenger conflicts as well as disruptive/hostile/abusive passengers; report unusual activities to the police.
- Assist passengers with directions, information, rules and regulations; assist with 911 emergency situations as directed; assist boarding/exiting passengers; secure carts, strollers, luggage and other belongings; assist passengers who need special assistance.
- Complete paperwork including time slips, day cards, arrival and departure times, occurrence/incident reports, passenger counts, types of fares used, and log books.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of customer service experience that includes providing information and/or assistance directly to the public OR 1 year of previous transit operator experience. Three (3) years of verifiable driving experience with a satisfactory driving record as determined by SacRT.
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application and have the ability to obtain a valid California Class B Driver's Permit with endorsements within 30 calendar days of employment. Training will be provided to assist in preparing the operator to successfully obtain the permit. SacRT will reimburse operators for the DMV fees required to obtain the DMV Commercial Learner's Permit.
Reimbursement will be made in the first pay period following the submission of DMV documentation, including the DMV receipt, of obtaining the permit.
The minimum qualifications as stated on this job announcement represent the basic requirements of the position. Incentives: Incentive bonuses available: $1000 in the first or second pay period after possessing the required CDL and $1000 at the completion of the probation.
Note:
For operators who possess the required CDL at hire, the first incentive payment is in the second pay period; for those who do not, the first incentive payment is in the first pay period after obtaining the CDL.
