Medical Terminology Teacher .2 FTE (Health Science; Online; Grades 9-12; beginning with the  school year)  Job Summary

The online teacher develops materials and lesson plans, conducts online instruction, evaluates and assesses student performance, meets with parents, interprets student progress, and informs parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Knows the primary concepts and structures of effective online instruction and creates learning experiences to enable student success.
  • Selects and uses a variety of online tools for communication, productivity, collaboration, analysis, presentation, research, and content delivery appropriate to the content area and student needs.
  • Uses communication technologies in diverse mediums for teaching and learning.
  • Applies troubleshooting skills (e.g., changes passwords, downloads plug-ins).
  • Plans, designs, and incorporates strategies to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation, and collaboration in the online environment.
  • Uses effective communication skills with students.
  • Identifies and explores new tools and tests their applicability to content areas and students.
  • Provides prompt feedback, communicates high expectations, and respects diverse talents and learning styles.
  • Provides clear definitions of objectives, concepts, and learning outcomes and organizes the course for students.
  • Establishes and implements criteria for appropriate online behavior for both teacher and students.
  • Uses student data to inform instruction, guides and monitors students’ time management, tracks learner progress with available tools, and develops intervention plans for unsuccessful learners.
  • Employs a variety of methods and tools to reach and engage struggling students.
  • Monitors student progress and applies relevant activities and tools for all students, including those with learning or physical disabilities, in collaboration with appropriate staff or resources.
  • Applies adaptive and assistive technologies in the online classroom as needed to meet student needs.
  • Communicates with appropriate school staff regarding accommodations, modifications, or needs listed in a student’s IEP or 504 plan and collaborates to address student needs.
  • Interacts professionally and effectively with colleagues, parents, students, and community members to support student success.
  • Demonstrates competencies in creating and implementing assessments in online learning environments to ensure validity and reliability of instruments and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree required; MA degree preferred.
  • Appropriate Minnesota teaching certificate.
  • 3-5 years teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing staff development (preferred).
  • Demonstrated teaching skills.
  • Good human relation skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Technology and troubleshooting skills with computer software and hardware.
  • Strong background in the use of Google Applications.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Schoology.
  • Classroom integration and best practices using Chromebooks.
  • Designing and implementing online content.
