Description

The Crossing Guard provides supervision and assistance to students crossing streets. May also provide traffic control and supervision of assigned parking lots.

Job Summary

Assists and directs students crossing streets in order to provide a safe environment for students to walk to school.

Provides supervision of students in the immediate area of the school crossing and while the student is crossing the street so that students cross the street in an orderly manner.

Reports traffic violations to the school principal.

Reports student behavior problems to the school principal.

Assists in the supervision of student School Patrol members.

Suggests improvements in the procedures for students who walk to school and cross the street so that safety methods are continually evaluated and revised if appropriate.

Promotes safety at all times to minimize accidents.

May work with the Police Liaison Officer on safety procedures or problems.

Attends workshops, in services, and training sessions regarding safety.

May conduct safety training for students.

May schedule weekly assignments and special events for student patrols.

Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school degree, GED, or equivalent experience.

Ability to work effectively with parents, students, and other staff.

Experience with students preferred.

Willingness to accept and follow direction.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Ability to work overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Entry level experience – no experience required.
