The Elections Assistant works within the Sherburne County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office to support election operations, including absentee voting, ballot board duties, election equipment testing, and general preparation for the 2026 General Election.

Estimated employment period:
October 1, 2026 – November 4, 2026

This is a temporary, non-PERA, non-benefit-eligible position.

Assist the Elections Office with day-to-day election operations.

Conduct preliminary testing and verification of election equipment.

Assist with absentee and early voting processes, including ballot board duties, mailing tasks, and handling voting materials.

Support pre-election preparation leading up to the 2026 General Election.

Assist with curbside voting, voter assistance, line control, and ballot-judge tasks at the Sherburne County Government Center.

Follow all Minnesota election laws and procedures.

Declare a party affiliation or state that you are unaffiliated, as required by statute.

Work Schedule

Hours will vary based on election needs.

Typical availability may be required between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or any day Sherburne County is open for early/absentee voting.

Must be able to work scheduled pre-election weekend hours:

  • Saturday, October 24, 2026 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
  • Saturday, October 31, 2026 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
  • Sunday, November 1, 2026 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Be eligible to vote in Minnesota (U.S. citizen, age 18+, MN resident for 20 days).

Have completed any felony sentence and not be under guardianship with revoked voting rights.

Be appointed by Sherburne County.

Not be a candidate in the election.

Not be related to any candidate or to any election judge working the same shift in the same precinct.

Declare a party affiliation or state that you are unaffiliated.

Additional Requirements
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism with voters.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Physical and emotional stamina.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic math, data entry, and computer skills.
Training requirements to be met upon hire
  • 2–4 hours of training depending on the election cycle.
  • Complete required Election Judge training provided by the County, including online training modules.
  • Additional in-person training provided during the assignment.
  • All training hours are paid.
