About Elkhart Hospital

Elkhart General Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital located in Elkhart, Indiana. Our full-service, 357-licensed-bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including:

What You’ll Do

As a Pulmonary Care Administrative Assistant, you’ll report to the Manager/Supervisor. You will provide secretarial services to the directors and management staff including typing correspondence and memos, assisting with special projects/reports, performing routine mailroom duties and providing general assistance to the Manager/Supervisor. You will also greet and direct visitors and serve as a receptionist and switchboard operator as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and visitors in a timely manner.
  • Notifies department when patient arrives.
  • Answers patient/visitor questions and refers to appropriate area when needed.
  • Answers all telephone calls and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains neat and clean reception area.
  • Notifies appropriate area of any customer service/service recovery issues.
  • Completes and maintains patient charts/reports as required.
  • Enters staff schedules, policies and procedures, etc into computer.
  • Enters patient charges into EGOR when requested.
  • Types, copies, and faxes all documents submitted and completes as requested.
  • Processes incoming mail, faxes, and documents on the printer.
  • Processes payroll/attendance as requested.
  • Gathers data and completes statistical analysis as requested.
  • Maintains logs for in services, education and skills.
  • Processes radiation safety badges each month.
  • Assists Director/Manager with designated special projects.
  • Maintains office equipment.
  • Maintains secretarial office supplies.
  • Files purchase requisitions and catalogs on a weekly basis.
  • Orders storeroom and special order supplies as requested.
  • Refers malfunctioning equipment to appropriate service area/company.
What You Bring
  • Ability to operate a computer, fax machine, telephone and copier.
  • Experience in Windows, Word, Excel, etc.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Up to 1 year of experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of previous experience as a medical secretary; medical terminology is preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Works in a hospital office and patient care environment.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, light to moderate lifting, stooping, grasping and bending required.
