The Assistant Camp Director supports the Day Camp Director in the daily operation, supervision, and coordination of camp programs and staff. This position assists with staff leadership, parent communication, activity planning, and operational support to ensure a safe, organized, and positive camp environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support and help oversee daily camp operations, ensuring programs run safely, efficiently, and according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Serve as a primary communication bridge between the Camp Director, Site Leaders, and Group Leaders to promote clear expectations and consistent program delivery.
  • Provide leadership support by assisting with staff supervision, coaching, scheduling coordination, and operational problem‑solving.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing activities, special events, and field trips in alignment with program goals.
  • Support communication with parents and guardians by sharing program information and addressing routine concerns, escalating issues to the Camp Director when appropriate.
  • Monitor staff and participant adherence to camp rules, departmental policies, safety standards, and Child Safety procedures.
  • Act in a leadership capacity during daily operations and assume Camp Director responsibilities when assigned or during Director absence.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with staff to ensure smooth transitions, teamwork, and operational consistency across sites.
  • Assist with evaluations, documentation, incident reporting, and end‑of‑season program review.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engage with the children and staff.
  • Plan and lead weekly staff meetings.
  • Solve problems in a timely manner if necessary.
  • Process registrations and maintain records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • College graduate with education background preferred; high school graduate.
  • At least 3 years working with children, ages 6‑12, in a structured setting such as another day camp, youth group, boy/girl scout leader, day care leader, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be an excellent problem solver and solve issues in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to discipline appropriately and mediate situations.
  • Help and encourage anyone who needs advice or a helping hand.
  • Support others through teamwork, dedication and guidance in order to achieve the completion of a task or activity.
  • Must have complete knowledge, or proven ability to learn, the rules and regulations of the city program including the child Safety Policy.
  • Must be friendly, active, and like to interact with children of all ages.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community program.
  • Have knowledge of developmental skills of children ages 6‑12.
  • Show the ability to conduct job interviews and be able to determine if a candidate is a fit for the day camp program.
