Maintenance Engineer
Maintain plant operating departments' equipment, systems and other fixed assets to a high standard of safety, quality and productivity at the lowest possible cost while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Provide electrical, mechanical & instrument maintenance support as required. Provide process systems expertise throughout facility. Act as special project engineer in the maintenance area; act as Project Engineer resource on various projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plant support for all processes and equipment in the plant
- Training of electricians and instrument technicians
- A technical resource to projects working in the plant for electrical and mechanical systems
- Liaison to maintain computers and the computer network for the plant manufacturing systems
- Upgrade manufacturing systems (plc’s, computers, software) to maintain a serviceable system with spare parts and current software revisions
- A software Knowledge for all computer systems involved in manufacturing
- A guide to outside software programmers for plant systems and standards
- Review project designs for correct application
- A resource for all manufacturing areas in the maintenance and process area and benchmark across plants
- Provide electrical, instrumentation and mechanical direction for Plant Maintenance assigned to the respective shifts
- Act as Site Subject Matter Expert on Vision Control Program and Management of Change
- Act as the site Capital Program Coordinator and maintain rolling 3year strategy/plan
- Assist in preparation and control of Electrical/Instrument/Mechanical
- Act as Calibration Coordinator; maintain the calibration program
- Ensure the instrument calibrations are completed on time and follow the written procedures
- Maintain a precise and accurate level of instrumentation
- Assist with training of the calibration program with operations, engineering and management to ensure compliance to procedures.
- Review calibration documents for correctness
- Be a liaison for the plant to the FDA and other outside organizations for the calibration program
Requirements:
- B.S. Engineering preferred or equivalent experience with plastic mold injection equipment
- At least 5 years’ experience preferred
- A knowledge of instrumentation and electrical devices
- PLC programming and controls background
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal required
- Strong technical and leadership skills required
Accountability/Scope/Budget:
- This position has a direct impact on productivity and performance throughout the plant. This includes proper utilization of headcount and equipment
- The position also directly impacts product quality in the production operations
- Accountable for regulatory compliance of the Maintenance operation including equipment change control
- This position is one in which performance can be directly measured in end results. Examples of the potential for negative results are:
1) Poor line performance resulting in lost product or overtime required,
2) Jeopardizing a batch or a number of batches if equipment such as hydraulic presses and depalletizer are not functioning correctly and
3) Poor performance could place Company in a position where FDA inspections and Corporate Compliance Audits could cite violations of regulations that would be serious quality concerns, possibly resulting in recalls or a temporary production shutdown.
