A growing and operationally driven organization in Elkhart, IN is seeking a hands‑on, fully onsite Controller to lead accounting operations and drive financial performance. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented finance leader who thrives in the weeds, understands the full cost accounting lifecycle, and can translate granular data into strategic insight.
Position OverviewThe Controller will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations while serving as a key business partner to leadership. This individual must deeply understand cost structure, margin drivers, and variance analysis — and be able to identify root causes, recommend solutions, and implement improvements that enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, month‑end close, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Own the full cost accounting process, ensuring accuracy in product costing, inventory valuation, and overhead allocation
- Perform detailed margin and variance analysis; identify trends, risks, and performance gaps
- Recognize operational and financial issues quickly and develop creative, data‑driven solutions
- Translate detailed financial data into actionable strategic recommendations for leadership
- Partner cross‑functionally with operations and management to improve cost structure and profitability
- Strengthen reporting processes and build scalable financial analysis tools
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards and company policies
- Strong expertise in cost accounting, margin analysis, and variance reporting
- Ability to dive deep into financial data while maintaining a strategic, big‑picture mindset
- Proven track record of identifying issues and implementing practical, creative solutions
- Naturally curious, analytical, and proactive problem solver
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly
- Comfortable working fully onsite and collaborating closely with operations teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- MBA or CPA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in manufacturing or a cost‑driven environment
- Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience strongly preferred
