Type: Full-Time/FTE 1.0 (40 hrs/wk)

Shift Details: 6:00am-2:30pm with weekend rotation

What You’ll Do

As a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant, you’ll report to the Laboratory Director. You will collect, accession, requisition and process specimens for testing. You’ll ensures that lab requisitions are appropriately completed and authorized and obtain pertinent patient information for laboratory records and/or billing purposes. You will perform general office/clerical responsibilities, perform phlebotomy and Point-of-Care testing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collects, processes, accession es, and transports specimens to ensure accurate and timely lab testing.
  • Performs venipuncture, capillary, arterial, toxicology, and non‑blood specimen collections per regulatory standards.
  • Verifies patient and test information, prioritizes specimens, and operates the laboratory information system.
  • Performs point‑of‑care and moderate‑complexity testing; reports critical values promptly.
  • Maintains QA/QC standards, documents variances, and ensures proper specimen handling and shipping.
  • Provides trauma support, communicates delays or complications, and assists clinical staff and customers.
  • Manages lab supplies, courier duties, phone requests, and maintains a clean, OSHA‑compliant work environment.

  • You demonstrate the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, other employees, and the public.
  • You have good organization skills and the ability to work effectively with general supervision.
  • You bring proficient computer skills to complete work assignments accurately and in a reasonable amount of time.
  • You demonstrate the ability to pay close attention to details.
  • You bring effective telephone usage skills necessary to process information accurately.
Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of high school diploma
  • Qualifies as testing personnel for moderate complexity testing as defined in CFR.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Courses in mathematics and some biological sciences
  • Minimum of one year of patient care, customer service, general office/clerical or related experience
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or experience
Working Conditions

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, chemicals and other conditions common to a hospital laboratory. May involve travel to various off‑site locations for pick up or delivery of specimens or supplies.
