Job Summary

The position of custodian is responsible for a wide range of general cleaning and maintenance responsibilities, extending from light housekeeping to heavy cleaning. This position provides labor in support of show production as needed.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Assists with the cleanliness and completion of light maintenance of The Lerner Theatre, including completion of daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and annual tasks.
• Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning of walls and fixtures, removal of trash, replacement of light bulbs, snow removal, carpet cleaning, painting moving of office furniture and building equipment.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

• Report to theatre management any malfunctions or damage that need attention.
• Must maintain inventory and order requests for supplies and equipment.
• Other related duties as may be directed by a supervisor.

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience in janitorial and light maintenance work.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Must have the ability to read and comprehend general maintenance manuals.
• Must be self-motivated and able to perform job requirements without constant supervision.
• Must be aware of workplace safety practices
• Must be capable of learning new techniques when properly instructed.

Physical, Mental, And Visual Skills

• Physical agility and strength to shovel, lift, push, pull material and objects with weights up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions

Work inside and outside year-round. Temperature extremes are: summer 95+ degrees and winter
-10 degrees. There is exposure to dirt, dust, snow, rain, and noise, equipment and vibrations, hazardous chemicals and electrical shock.

Drug Test Required

The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore, a post offer, pre-employment drug screen is required. Random drug testing may be conducted after employment.
