The Materials Manager is responsible for inventory accuracy, data analysis, scheduling and execution of the cycle count program, material storage/flow and availability of components in production supermarkets. Own the preparation and execution of yearly physical inventory process. Drive departmental and company KPIs while developing continuous improvement initiatives. Support the reduction of cost while increasing efficiencies under the direction of the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities- Manage and train inventory control teams and material handlers.
- Supervise inventory control and material department activities to include team member time and attendance, and performance management.
- Ensure team members identify root causes of inventory discrepancies and correct them to avoid re-occurrence.
- Review negative inventory reports. Through root cause analysis determine cause and implement correction.
- Identify and communicate BOM/Routing issues to process engineers.
- Manage and submit Plant Manager monthly check off list (Sarbanes Oxley) for inventory related issues.
- Coordinate with Director of Materials Planning & Inventory, finance, and operation department to analyze financial impacts of cycle counting and physical inventories.
- Assist with the implementation of shop floor controls and ERP setups while auditing their effectiveness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and supply chain teams for opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and control.
- Collaborate with supervisor and finance on E&O initiatives and review reserves to determine causes and suggest corrective actions.
- Assist with data analysis for materials, operations, and engineering groups to ensure effectiveness of processes, reduce costs, and manage inventory.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures & Operational Plans.
- Collect and interpret analytical and performance data to create KPIs.
- Assist with daily department functions as necessary including, but not limited to inventory audits, discrepancy reconciliation, inventory movements, interplant transfers, disposition of E&O items, and projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 4-year supply chain or management degree or 8 years of inventory management experience without degree.
- Advanced knowledge of supply chain and inventory concepts around product movement, disposition, business processes, and relevant industry compliance.
- Proven track record of project leadership.
- Working knowledge of ERP or other materials management systems experience with Dynamics 365, Infor, and AS400 is a plus.
- Effective ability to develop and enforce policies regarding inventory.
- Experience in LEAN and Six Sigma techniques and practices is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written expected.
- Normal office environment with periods of sedentary work, as well as significant daily standing and walking on shop floor.
- Requires repetitive upper body movement – keyboard & monitor use.
- Periods of bending and lifting in line with developing Kanban tools and visual inventory pull systems.
