Production Manager

This is a 2nd shift position (3PM-12PM Monday-Friday) A Brief Summary Of This PositionThis position is responsible for overseeing and managing the production, material flow, and the quality control of the shift. The Shift Supervisor administers organizational policies and procedures at the department level, supervises daily shop operations, and establishes work priorities to meet internal and external customer shipping commitments. The incumbent establishes shift objectives to support the division’s goals, reviews performance plans, and ensures manufactured products meet or exceed quality standards.
The Shift Supervisor orders and supervises necessary repairs and maintenance of machines and equipment, maintains accurate records of orders and inspection reports, enforces safety and housekeeping practices, conducts employee training, and is expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on the production floor.
- Implement work schedule to maximize utilization of manpower, machines, and materials and assign work to hourly employees
- Define expected production standards and monitor performance standards of the assigned personnel
- Monitor performance of assigned personnel, complete employee performance reviews, and take corrective action as necessary
- Process parts and/or components to meet production schedule and advise Production Manager and schedulers of difficulties in meeting plans or schedules
- Report discrepancies in blueprints, specifications, methods, engineering data, standards, etc. to Production Manager
- Ensure product quality meets specified standards and assigned personnel make inspections as required by standard procedures
- Report and investigate all incidents in a timely manner
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel’s time and production through various production reports
- Conduct monthly safety meetings with personnel
- Administer company policies in a firm, fair, and consistent manner
- Responsible for reviewing and approving payroll for all direct reports to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing
- Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions in assigned areas
- Train new employees into department activities and safety procedures
- Ensure all shift employees maintain productivity, punctuality, and efficiency; weekend work may be required per operational needs
The Role
- This position reports to the Production Manager and has 30-50 direct reports
- Serve as a champion for various teams/projects to promote continuous improvement
- Actively participate in monthly Safety Leadership Team meetings
- Possess a high level of supervisory capability, ensuring leadership and motivation of subordinates to attain high standards of quality and productivity
- Evaluate and weigh alternatives, establish appropriate priorities, and formulate sound decisions affecting all phases of the operation
- Foster harmonious relations within the shift and between shifts
- Accountable for safety, product quality, cost control, meeting production schedules, proper use of direct and indirect labor, accurate record-keeping and reporting, minimizing scrap and rework costs, training new and existing personnel, and communicating with other supervisory and management personnel as well as subordinates
- Frequent use of computer terminals and personal computers to perform duties of the position
- Assist with maintaining process tanks at required levels of concentrations for quality galvanizing

- High school diploma or GED equivalent with 2+ years of leadership experience in an industrial environment
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in front of an audience
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to support divisional business objectives
- Ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
