A Brief Summary of This Position

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the production, material flow, and the quality control of the shift. The Shift Supervisor administers organizational policies and procedures at the department level, supervises daily shop operations, and establishes work priorities to meet internal and external customer shipping commitments. Incumbent will enforce quality standards, manage repairs and maintenance of machines, maintain accurate records, and enforce safety and housekeeping practices.

Functions
  • Implement work schedule to maximize utilization of manpower, machines, and materials and assign work to hourly employees
  • Define expected production standards and monitor performance of assigned personnel
  • Monitor performance of personnel, conduct performance reviews, and take corrective action as necessary
  • Process parts and/or components to meet production schedule and advise Production Manager and schedulers of difficulties
  • Report discrepancies in blueprints, specifications, methods, engineering data, and standards to Production Manager
  • Ensure product quality meets specified standards and assign inspections as required by standard procedures
  • Report and investigate all incidents promptly
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of personnel’s time and production via production reports
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings with personnel
  • Administer company policies fairly and consistently
  • Review and approve payroll for all direct reports to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions in assigned areas
  • Train new employees in department activities and safety procedures
  • Ensure employees maintain productivity, punctuality, and efficiency during the scheduled shift, including required weekend work as communicated in advance
Other Important Details about the Role
  • This position reports to the Production Manager and has 30-50 direct reports
  • Serve as a champion for teams and projects to promote continuous improvement
  • Participate actively in monthly Safety Leadership Team meetings
  • Possess high supervisory capability to lead, motivate, and attain high quality and productivity standards
  • Evaluate alternatives, set priorities, and make sound operational decisions
  • Foster harmonious relations within the shift and across shifts
  • Accountable for safety, product quality, cost control, production schedules, labor usage, accurate record‑keeping, reducing scrap and rework, training, and communication with other supervisory personnel
  • Use computer terminals and personal computers frequently for job duties
  • Assist with maintaining process tanks at required concentration levels for quality galvanizing
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with 2+ years of leadership experience in an industrial environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to present information one‑on‑one and in front of an audience
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to support divisional business objectives
  • Ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years relevant experience OR Associate’s Degree with 5+ years relevant experience OR 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Three years of supervisory or management experience in an industrial environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA, environmental regulations, and state and federal labor standards is preferred
  • Experience utilizing an automated time and attendance tracking system is preferred
Working Environment and Physical Efforts
