You will perform complete machine setups, make precise offsets and adjustments, interpret G and M code and blueprints, and work with large, delicate castings and steel components. The position requires hands-on involvement from initial setup and first-piece inspection through metrology checks and final part washing in preparation for packing.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full setups on CNC horizontal boring mills, averaging approximately two setups per day.
  • Make offsets and adjustments at the machine to ensure parts meet tight tolerances of +/-.005 inches.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
  • Understand and work with G and M code to run and adjust CNC programs as needed.
  • Change out tooling, including tool holders and inserts, and verify correct tooling for each job.
  • Work with large and delicate castings and steel parts, ensuring careful handling and accurate fixturing.
  • Create and maintain a true position (zero-point) for accurate part location and repeatability.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensions using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and gauge pins.
  • Run metrology checks on parts throughout the machining process to confirm dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Wash and clean completed parts to prepare them for packing and shipment.
  • Safely operate an overhead crane or hoist to move casings and other large work pieces.
  • Follow job shop machining practices, including handling multiple setups and change-outs per day in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues with tooling, programs, or quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all shop safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and skill development in CNC machining.
Essential Skills

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of G and M code for CNC machining.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently hold tolerances of +/-.005 inches.
  • Experience using precision quality instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and gauge pins.
