Carpenter Co. has immediate openings for a Mattress Line Worker in our Laminated Mattress Department on 1st Shift (6am to 2pm) at our Elkhart, Indiana foam manufacturing plant. Positions involve producing specific products for external customers efficiently, safely, and productively. Hourly pay ranges from $23.93 to $24.85 per hour.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will maintain daily communication with Quality Control, Department Manager, and other employees in the department to make sure that all products being manufactured meet the requirements and specifications of the customer. This position also involves learning the many varieties of mattress manufactured by this department.

• Read and understand the labeling process.
• Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Learn the different types of mattresses produced and the configuration of each.
• Box, label, and package mattresses per customer specifications.
• Build mattresses in an efficient manner.
• Feed toppers through the laminator, operate the sock closer and banding machine.
• Maneuver and lift materials and finished products weighing up to 50 pounds individually (or up to 90 pounds in a team lift) depending on position.
• Use hand scanner and read the daily production schedule.
• Operate the destacker machine.
• Maintain value of order and organize the storage areas.
• Fully understand quality standards as prescribed by management.
• Assist with monthly inventory, as required.
• Work in the kitter area as needed.
• Read and interpret a tape measure.

• High School Diploma or General Education Development required.
• One year of manufacturing experience.
• One year of assembly experience preferred.
• Computer knowledge and ability to use computerized equipment in day‑to‑day operations.
• Ability to lift mattresses in a team with other operators, up to 90 pounds during the production shift.
