Job Summary:
This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turret punch presses and laser cutting machines to process sheet metal components according to production specifications. The Turret/Laser Operator reads and interprets blueprints, production drawings, and job orders; loads and unloads materials; monitors machine operation; inspects finished parts for quality and accuracy; and maintains a safe and organized work area. This position requires strong attention to detail, a focus on quality and safety, and the ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
This position reports to the Production Team Lead/Plant Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ensuring safety is always the #1 priority.
- Set up and operate CNC turret punch and laser cutting machines to produce precision sheet metal parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, and job orders to determine machine setup and operation requirements.
- Load and unload sheet metal materials onto machines using proper handling techniques.
- Monitor machine operation during cutting or punching to ensure part accuracy and prevent material waste.
- Inspect finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Make necessary machine adjustments to maintain part quality and consistency.
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment and report any issues or malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Maintain open communication with supervisors and team members.
- Must communicate in a timely and effective manner.
- Must be able to follow directions and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 3 years of experience operating CNC turret and/or laser machines in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with metal types, gauges, and machine tooling.
- Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of CNC controls, such as Amada, Trumpf, Mazak, or similar equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift 50 lbs. regularly throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment with varying temperatures.
- Use of PPE such as safety glasses, ear protection, and steel-toed boots required.
- Full-time schedule; overtime or weekend work may be required depending on production needs.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
