Elkhart General Hospital is a not‑for‑profit hospital located in Elkhart, Indiana. Our full‑service, 357‑bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including emergency, radiology, orthopedics, maternity, behavioral health, imaging, lab, genetic counseling, and DaVinci robotic surgery. WhatYou’ll Do
- Perform the priority (high risk, high frequency) technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally.
- Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care activities based on acuity, resource availability, patient preference, and other departmental or staff priorities.
- Respond to data indicating potential or actual risk to an individual’s physical or emotional health by initiating action to reduce or prevent the risk.
- Advocate for the patient or family when necessary to achieve appropriate outcomes.
- Maintain accountability for own and delegated actions and decisions based on scientific principles, successful experiences, intuition, standards of practice, protocols, and organizational values.
- Seek supervision, consultation, or assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently.
- Use internal and/or external resources to resolve and/or prevent problems that cannot be managed independently.
- Develop or revise a plan of care for assigned patients based on initial and ongoing data. Include measurable goals and outcomes; reflect patients’ and families’ values and preferences; identify interventions to achieve goals; address physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and learning problems.
- Initiate or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe and effective care for patients across the entire continuum.
- Modify, continue, or discontinue interventions, goals, or time frames according to evaluation of effectiveness, efficiency, and/or patient satisfaction.
- Document assessments, interventions, actions, data collection results, and outcomes within established guidelines.
- Use interpersonal communication strategies with all team members to achieve desirable outcomes and maintain satisfaction.
- Delegate to other staff members based on acuity/complexity, role definition, and the collective needs of patients, families, and unit. Maintain accountability for achieving appropriate outcomes associated with delegated acts.
- Maintain awareness of advances in clinical specialty.
- Contribute to the department’s ability to achieve and maintain clinical excellence, customer‑focused service excellence, fiscal responsibility, innovation, and a best‑place‑to‑work environment.
- Contribute to the development of co‑workers through positive role modeling, resource assistance, and direct feedback.
You bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment, and techniques.
