Elkhart General Hospital is a not‑for‑profit hospital located in Elkhart, Indiana. Our full‑service, 357‑licensed‑bed hospital has served the community for more than 100 years with a variety of services including emergency department, radiology, orthopedics, maternity, behavioral health, imaging and lab, genetic counseling, and da Vinci robotic surgery. As an Intermediate Care Center Registered Nurse, you’ll report to the Manager of the Intermediate Care Center and provide professional nursing services. You will assess patient needs, initiate, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care, and collaborate with clinical and ancillary staff to deliver high‑quality care.

• Perform the priority (high risk, high frequency) technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally.
• Establish and/or revise priorities for job/patient care activities based on acuity, resource availability, patient preference, departmental priorities, timelines, and plans.
• Respond to data indicating potential or actual risk to an individual's physical or emotional health by initiating corrective action.
• Advocate for the patient or family when necessary to achieve appropriate outcomes.
• Maintain accountability for own and delegated actions and decisions, basing actions on scientific principles, standards of practice, and organizational values.
• Seek supervision, consultation, or assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently.
• Use internal and/or external resources to resolve or prevent problems that cannot be managed independently.
• Develop or revise a plan of care for assigned patients based on ongoing data, setting measurable goals and identifying interventions.
• Initiate or maintain interventions to ensure continuity of safe and effective care across the continuum.
• Modify, continue, or discontinue interventions, goals, or time frames based on evaluation of effectiveness and patient satisfaction.
• Document assessments, interventions, actions, data collection results, and outcomes consistently within established guidelines.
• Use interpersonal communication strategies with all team members to achieve desirable outcomes and satisfaction.
• Delegate to other staff based on acuity, role definition, and ability to perform, maintaining accountability for delegated actions.
• Maintain awareness of advances in clinical specialty.
• Contribute to achieving clinical excellence, customer‑focused service, fiscal responsibility, innovation, and a great workplace.
• Support co‑workers’ development through positive role modeling, resource assistance, and direct feedback.

You bring a high level of knowledge and competency in nursing care procedures, assessments, treatments, and techniques. Your analytical skills help solve complex problems and make patient‑centered decisions. You have strong interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others, and you communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms. You are responsive and adaptable to scheduling needs for the benefit of co‑workers and the department.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana
• For candidates hired after January 1, 2014, must obtain a BSN within five (5) years of employment or become certified in their specialty area, maintaining certification per accrediting body standards.
