REPORTS TO: Tennis Program Manager
Job SummaryThe Tennis/Pickleball Instructor supports the success and growth of Parks & Recreation racquet sport programs by providing high-quality instruction, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and delivering excellent guest service. This position leads skill development for participants of various ages and ability levels while supporting program operations, safety standards, and participant engagement.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in tennis and pickleball skills and techniques through private lessons, clinics, and group classes for youth and adult participants.
- Plan and implement structured lessons appropriate to participant age, skill level, and program objectives.
- Deliver constructive feedback and encouragement to support participant development, confidence, and enjoyment.
- Ensure participant safety by monitoring activities, enforcing program rules, and following departmental safety procedures.
- Provide excellent guest service by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment for participants, families, and spectators.
- Respond to participant and parent questions or concerns professionally and escape issues to supervisors when appropriate.
- Maintain organization, care, and proper use of tennis equipment, courts, and program areas.
- Support promotion and growth of tennis and pickleball programs through positive engagement and representation of Parks & Recreation services.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and staff to support program consistency and operational success.
- Assist with program setup, breakdown, and general maintenance of activity areas.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Engage with participants and staff.
- Attend weekly staff meetings during summer season.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with individuals of all ages and skill levels.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about teaching tennis.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
- Must be an excellent problem solver and solve issues in a timely manner.
- Help and encourage anyone who needs advice or a helping hand.
- Support others through teamwork, dedication, and guidance in order to achieve excellence in a task or activity.
- Must have complete knowledge, or proven ability to learn, the rules and regulations of the city program including the Child Safety Policy.
- Must be available throughout majority of programs to oversee success.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions- Occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or hot, humid conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud while in the field.
