Straight Truck Driver

Job Summary

Responsible for safely and efficiently operating a tractor‑trailer or box truck to deliver finished product to customers in accordance with state and federal laws.

Shift Information

1st Shift – Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Local Routes)

Essential Functions

• Complies with Driver responsibilities as outlined in the company DAART program and as required by DOT.
• Maintains vehicle in accordance with Elkhart Transportation management policy.
• Operates vehicle safely and efficiently, complying with company policy, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Supports on‑time delivery by transporting loads via established routes to proper destinations while observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Inspects trailer loads to ensure proper loading processes and correct load before leaving the facility.
• Verifies product count while the truck is being loaded.
• Obtains correct acknowledgement or signature and date for bill of lading and other necessary documents; returns properly completed documentation to the Transportation Manager.
• Complies with performance measures.
• Duties may vary depending on location.

Requirements / Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Operator's License.

Experience

• At least 2 years prior experience driving large vehicles such as a box truck.
• Demonstrated experience practicing safe driving practices.
• Previous experience delivering and handling freight preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Required to stand, walk, talk, or listen regularly.
• Frequent use of hands and arms to handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasional sitting required.
• Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

On the road, the employee may encounter traffic or other hazardous driving conditions.
