Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting and supporting the teachers in classroom and special duty areas. In addition, this position provides adequate supervision for all children in their care while offering a heightened level of care for certain students with multiple and/or specific disabilities or needs. Schedule Days:

This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Assist the teacher in the classroom in large and small groups with varied activities. Carry out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the instructional plan based on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Prepare instructional materials and reports for the teacher.
Assist the professional in observing, recording, and charting behaviors, then communicate student progress to the teacher. Assist the teacher or professional with crisis problems and ongoing approaches to behavior management. Assist students in special areas such as swimming, music and speech. Supervise and assist students in the washroom. Supervise and assist students on and off of the school buses. Serve, feed and assist students at the lunch table.
Supervise outdoor recess. Participate in other building-level duties as assigned by the building administrator or designee. Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

Education and/or Experience High school plus two additional years of formal preparation and zero to six months of relevant prior experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven basic skills in arithmetic with an ability to count, look up numbered items or sort items in numerical order. Interactions and Communications Responds to requests and initiates contacts to exchange basic or general information with others. If staff member has reasonable cause to suspect that a child is being abused or neglected, it remains that individual's obligation to report that situation to the local Child Protective Services office.
