Special Education Teacher, Special Needs / Learning Disabilities
This position is responsible for providing diagnostic, consultative, prescriptive and instructional services to children with special educational needs. The is also involved, to a significant degree, with the use of augmentative communication devices, assistive technology, adaptive equipment and visual supports to enhance student independence, participation and engagement. The goal of the is to enable children to develop their skills in order to positively impact a student's educational progress, independence, self-advocacy and post-secondary experiences.
SUPERVISIONThis position may oversee daily duties of paraprofessionals, if assigned to a student caseload.

Diagnostic and Evaluation- Collaborate with the school psychologist to reevaluate students every three years.
- Evaluate a student's progress and report that progress to the student’s parents, other teachers, therapists, and administrators.
- Remain current with the best-practice approaches and tools for conducting assessments, collaborate with others to conduct assessments, and use information gathered to determine instruction and intervention for students with learning difficulties.
- Develop an individual educational plan (IEP) on each student enrolled in the in collaboration with parents and IEP team members.
- Meet with the student's parents and IEP team members at least annually to review the IEP; continually monitor completion of a student’s IEP and communicate ongoing needs to team members when assigned as Case Manager.
- Track data and review student’s IEPs, updating the plan as objectives and goals are achieved.
- Schedule instructional time that is appropriate to meet the student's educational needs in cooperation with other involved parties.
- Provide instructional services necessary to achieve the goals and objectives listed in the student's IEPs.
- Consult with IEP Team members concerning any educational needs of the student.
- Collaborate with colleagues and therapists to ensure appropriate and consistent interventions and instruction are carried out with fidelity.
- Provide materials, resources and techniques to other assigned teachers, therapists, parents and other concerned parties whenever necessary to meet student’s special education needs outside of the .
- Provide in‑services about exceptional children and their services to parents, school staff and other concerned parties upon request.
- Meet with parents whenever appropriate to discuss student progress.
- Perform other duties and functions requested by the Director of Special Education, their designee(s) and/or building administrators.
- Assist in integrating the student back into the regular classroom when indicated and continue supportive contact with the student and the district stakeholders until transition is completed.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to the field of learning.
- Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

Education and/or ExperienceMust possess a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Special Education. Must be eligible for a Wisconsin Teaching License #1801 or #2801 Cross Categorical Special Education.
