Description
The Secondary Operator role is pivotal in our machine shop environment, specializing in processes that CNC machine platforms cannot perform. This role involves precision work, removing sharp edges and burrs from machine components to guarantee the highest quality products. Your role will include a variety of different job tasks including work at the bench inspecting machined components, operating laser engravers, CNC mills/lathes, buffing machines, thread rollers, grinders, etc.
This team member will thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, has a keen eye for detail, and is committed to delivering excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure precise conformance of work pieces to specifications by utilizing measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, profilometer, and go-no-go gauges.
- Execute the setup of machines by lifting, moving, clamping, and bolting tools and fixtures using a variety of hand tools.
- Handle the positioning and removal of work pieces, as well as the disposal of scrap from machines.
- Utilize portable grinders and hand tools to file, grind, buff, or scrape sharp edges, burrs, etc. from work pieces.
- Categorize, mark, or tag finished work and manually transport materials.
- Conduct daily visual inspections of machines to ensure proper functionality before operation.
- Verify the availability of necessary materials at the beginning of each job, including materials, gauging equipment, prints, inspection instructions, and routers. Ensure gauging equipment is properly managed at the completion of the job.
- Adhere to inspection instructions and handle parts according to the provided router.
- Effectively account for non-conforming parts and accurately document job activities within the ERP system, including clocking in and out, printing job cards, and tracking downtime.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, actively participating in the cleanliness of common areas.
- Demonstrate an understanding of ISO work instructions.
- Collaborate within a team focused on critical inspection work to support manufacturing processes.
- Complete any additional duties or projects as assigned.

- Basic math, computer, and data entry skills (previous ERP system experience a plus).
- The ability to effectively use precision measuring instruments.
- Vision corrected to 20/20 for accurate inspection of parts.

- Ability to continuously lift 10 lbs., frequently lift up to 25 lbs., occasionally lift 50 lbs.

- Typically, work is performed within a manufacturing environment where the noise level is moderate.
