Position Summary

This position supports Child Protective Service (CPS) social workers by performing day‑to‑day case management tasks to maintain child safety. The role includes supervising and observing parent/child interactions as defined by the safety plan, de‑escalating situations, and shielding children in the home from unsafe circumstances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide safety service checks and in‑home observation of children when safety concerns are identified.
  • Conduct drug screens for consumers receiving targeted safety services or ongoing services.
  • Provide transportation for consumers who have children in out‑of‑home care.
  • Assist families in remedying identified safety concerns in the home as directed by the case manager.
  • Manage present danger threats during all scheduled interactions and report observed threats to the assigned social worker or supervisor immediately.
  • Attend family team meetings and staffings.
  • Document clearly and thoroughly all concerns and strengths observed in case notes for each consumer in eWisacwis within required timelines.
  • Attend trainings related to the job position such as safety for non‑CPS, crisis de‑escalation, mental health topics, medical issues, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Human Services or current enrollment in an accredited university program with a social work major or related field and zero to six months of prior relevant experience.
  • Preferred bilingual Spanish speaker.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proof of minimum liability auto insurance coverage.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for daily business travel.
Interactions and Communications

Responds to requests and initiates contacts to exchange confidential and technical information internally as well as basic or general information with others.

Decision Making

This position has authority to make decisions within general procedures and protocols; supervision is available as required. These decisions directly impact performance in the job and/or work unit within the department.

Thinking and Problem Solving

In relation to established procedures, protocols and policies of the County, challenges tend to be diverse but are typically covered by precedent or established practice.

Work Environment

The work environment includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, unclean homes, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. Noise level is usually moderate. The employee is expected to travel to consumer homes as part of normal duties.

Physical Demands

Regular tasks include sitting, talking, hearing, handling, reaching with hands, occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
