Art-Digital Media Faculty

Davis & Elkins College, a private college in the liberal arts tradition, invites applications for a full-time faculty position within the Division of Creative Arts, beginning in August 2026. The successful applicant's primary responsibility will be teaching art and design courses in support of the College's new Major and Minor in Digital Media. After three years of satisfactory performance, full-time faculty members can apply to move from a term to a probationary (tenure-eligible) contract.

Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A master's degree in Art, Graphic Design, Digital Media or a related field, and/or relevant professional experience is required. A minimum of one year of teaching experience is preferred.

MISSION

To fulfill this mission, the Art Department is committed to providing Digital Media Majors/Minors that merge creative expression with an entrepreneurial spirit by teaching studio art, art appreciation, and art history. Our curriculum combines print design and interactive media to provide hands-on courses that allow students to nurture and grow skills in graphic design, visual communication, branding, interactive digital environments, and 3D design through industry standard software and online tools.

We also seek to support and advance the professional and economic development of our city, state and region by establishing partnerships and serving as a resource for all those who seek to improve their local communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent technical skills and the ability to instruct students in both introductory and advanced digital and graphic design courses using Adobe Creative software. Instruction will emphasize emerging digital technologies, including interactive media, illustration, digital imaging, digital photography, and video editing.

Responsibilities include:

* Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, with a focus on Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign.

* Working knowledge of Procreate, Cap Cut, and other iPad-based applications.

* Ability to manage and maintain the Mac lab, including software updates for desktop iMacs and iPads.

* Oversight of the Fab Lab operations, including maintenance of laser cutter, 3D printers, and Cricut cutters.

* Instructional support to the Studio Art department in traditional art courses such as drawing, painting, 2D design, and 3D design

* Ability to provide academic advising and mentoring to students; engage in professional development; contribute service to the Department and College; and demonstrate a willingness to explore and develop cross-disciplinary curriculum and community partnerships

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

* Recruit and retain students in the Art and Graphic Design area

* Participate in departmental and Art Area meetings and events

* Maintain regular office hours

* Collaborate in capturing student work for the D&E Creative Arts Instagram
