Mathematics & Chemistry Faculty

Davis & Elkins College, a private college in the liberal arts tradition, invites applications for a full-time position in the division of Mathematics & Science, beginning in August 2026. A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Chemistry is preferred, but ABDs will be considered.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching STEM courses, especially introductory courses in Chemistry, as well as Mathematics courses for non-majors. The area of research specialization is open. This position will also include administrative duties, such as stockroom management, chemical waste disposal, reagent preparation, and routine laboratory safety inspections.

After three years of satisfactory performance, full-time faculty members can progress to a three-year contract and then five-year contracts, or they can apply to move from a term to a probationary (tenure-eligible) contract. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Expected salary range for a Ph.D. is $35,000 to $45,000.

Essential, ongoing responsibilities associated with the position include the following:

* Successful teaching in a variety of STEM courses

* Average course load of 3-4 courses a semester

* Administrative oversight of the Chemistry stockroom and laboratories

* Successfully mentoring and advising students

* Working collaboratively and creatively with colleagues across the campus and within the local community.

* Engaging in ongoing assessment activities

* Acting in a professional and collegial manner (this includes maintaining an ongoing presence on campus, maintaining confidentiality as required, holding weekly office hours, participating in recruitment and retention efforts, and being accessible to students and colleagues)
