Description
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled work at the full‑performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of state facilities, institutions, and buildings. Work assignments usually require skill in and knowledge of maintenance and repair methods and practices in several building maintenance trades. Performs related work as required. This is a full‑time position with state benefits.
Job Duties- Repairs and replaces walls, floors, steps, doors, window frames, tables, chairs, and other wooden articles or equipment using saws, power and hand tools.
- Repairs and replaces lighting fixtures, bulbs, switches, and wiring; installs simple electrical equipment and assists in installation and repair of electrical equipment.
- Repairs and replaces sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains, and water lines; unstops toilets, drains, and sewer lines; cleans grease traps.
- Performs masonry repair work such as preparing cement, installing reinforcing steel rods, patching and finishing cement work, and replacing damaged masonry.
- Paints window frames, tables, chairs, buildings, sheds, rooms, and equipment.
- Starts, monitors operational readings, makes necessary adjustments, and shuts down boilers and unfired pressure vessels; tests boiler water and adds chemicals as needed.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials. Moves furniture, loads and unloads supplies, moves equipment by hand or with dollies and performs other manual tasks.
- Repairs and maintains tools and equipment used.
- May perform building service work such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors and washing walls, windows, mirrors and fixtures.
- May perform routine grounds work such as mowing and trimming, removing snow, sweeping sidewalks, and picking up trash.
- Training: No formal education required.
- Experience: Two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in building maintenance or as a helper in a building trade.
Pay Grade: 7 ($29,070 - $49,360)
Life Insurance- PEIA offers $10,000 life insurance policies for all full‑time employees. PEIA also offers optional life insurance of varying amounts that include $5,000 to $500,000 worth of coverage, subject to an insurability screening. For first‑time PEIA participants, PEIA allows up to $100,000 of optional life insurance coverage for employees to enroll without the insurability screening. PEIA offers dependent life coverage; please visit the PEIA website for plans and pricing.
- The WV State Police also offers a $4,000 life insurance policy through UNUM Provident Life Insurance.
- As WV public employees, all full‑time public employees are required to participate with the Public Employees Retirement Plan, regulated by the Consolidated Public Retirement Board. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2015 will be members of the PERS II plan, contributing 6% of their gross monthly salary. WV State Police contributes 10% of the member’s gross monthly salary for a combined total of 16%.
- An additional retirement option is available with Empower Retirement and functions as a 457 retirement plan.
- Mountaineer Flexible Benefits offers additional insurance such as Dental, Vision, Hearing, Legal, Short‑ and Long‑term disability, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Health Savings Accounts (for qualifying employees who enroll in the PPB Plan C Health Plan offered by PEIA).
- All full‑time employees receive a yearly $500 longevity salary increase.
- All full‑time employees earn 15‑24 paid vacation days per year depending on longevity.
- All full‑time employees earn 1.5 sick days per month.
- The state offers 12 paid holidays a year (for full‑time employees).
