Sandvik Mining is looking for a Workshop Manager in our Elko, NV facility.

Business area Mining provides equipment, tools, service, digital solutions, and sustainability‑driving technologies for the mining and construction industries.

The Workshop Manager is responsible for general management, planning, and resourcing of all rebuild and repair activities within the Elko Workshop in support of the local Sandvik USA region, improving customer perception and developing efficient operations that add value to the customer base.

This role requires in‑facility presence in Elko, NV.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop facility rebuild operations, offerings, and capabilities consistent with business strategies and identified customer needs.
  • Manage workshop resources to meet utilization, production targets, and capacity requirements.
  • Develop workshop business plans for additional projects or expansion of current operations.
  • Enhance relationships with internal and external customers to support constructive and profitable business partnerships.
  • Investigate competitor activities and conduct relevant market research to maintain competitiveness.
  • Ensure workshop operations run with efficient and lean processes.
  • Create an environment where tasks and actions are driven by strong process and project management concepts.
  • Provide input into and achieve agreed business targets, including inventory management, workshop utilization, capacity management, and workshop standards.
  • Ensure implementation of appropriate financial controls.
  • Optimize rebuild capacity and service offerings for the customer base.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction within the area of primary responsibility.
  • Hire, coach, motivate, train, evaluate, and direct team members to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ensure proper onboarding of new personnel in accordance with company procedures.
  • Manage, motivate, and influence ad‑hoc teams as driven by business needs.
  • Manage resources to deliver rebuild and repair projects for internal and external customers on time and within budget.
  • Comply with Sandvik EHS policies and applicable government, customer, and industry regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe work habits.
  • Strive to find safer ways for customers to work with Sandvik products.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company values and policies.
  • Participate in mining association meetings as designated.
  • Stay current on industry developments and competitive repair and rebuild offerings.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and skill enhancement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and four years hands‑on experience in engineering, business, operations management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five additional years of workshop, service, rebuild, repair, or heavy equipment maintenance leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing technicians, supervisors, planners, parts coordination, repair schedules, customer priorities, and workshop production targets.
  • Strong understanding of mining equipment rebuilds, component repairs, rock drill repairs, welding/fabrication activities, contamination control, quality assurance, and safe workshop practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required MSHA, site‑specific, EHS, and customer‑required training where applicable.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant business systems used for work orders, planning, parts, timekeeping, invoicing, and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, operations management, or a related discipline.
  • Ten years of progressive leadership experience in mining, heavy equipment, industrial repair, rebuild, or service operations.
  • Experience leading a multi‑discipline workshop environment, including machine rebuilds, component rebuilds, rock drills, welding, repair work, paint/refurbishment, planning, parts coordination, and administration.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to manage utilization, capacity, labor recovery, cost control, invoicing flow, customer expectations, and profitability.
  • Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, 5S, root cause analysis, quality management systems, and ISO 9001 principles.
