Job Overview
Great Basin College is seeking an experienced and passionate Diesel Technology Instructor to join its Career and Technical Education team. The role is based in Elko, Nevada and is responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction across all areas of diesel technology, including heavy equipment repair, diagnostics, maintenance, and emerging industry practices.
Responsibilities- Teach lecture, lab, and hands‑on coursework in diesel technology and heavy equipment repair.
- Prepare and deliver engaging in‑person, hybrid, evening, and/or distance education courses as needed.
- Use the college’s learning management system to deliver course materials, assessments, and student feedback.
- Advise and mentor students in Career and Technical Education programs.
- Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum aligned with current industry standards.
- Collaborate with industry partners and participate in Diesel Advisory Board meetings.
- Participate in faculty governance, committee assignments, and college initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain technical expertise.
- Travel throughout the state as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited or certified Diesel Technology trade school.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent industry experience in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment maintenance, and mining‑related equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Strong technical knowledge of current diesel systems, diagnostics, and repair practices.
- ASE Master Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Technology.
- Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience.
- Community college, technical education, or apprenticeship instruction experience.
Grade Academic Faculty – 1. This is a 12‑month “A” contract position. The salary range is $55,000 – $80,000, based on education, experience, internal equity, and budgets.
Retirement: 19.25% contribution from the college, 100% vested first day.
