Job Summary

Great Basin College is seeking a full‑time, tenure‑track English instructor for its main campus in Elko or its Pahrump Valley Center in Pahrump, Nevada. The position emphasizes professional writing, technical communication, and first‑year composition in both in‑person and distance formats. A background in professional writing and technical communication is required.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, deliver, and assess college‑level courses in professional writing, technical communication, and composition, including first‑year courses.
  • Teach a combination of in‑person, Zoom, and asynchronous online classes to serve Great Basin College’s service area.
  • Collaborate with department and college faculty to pursue institutional and departmental goals and to support student success.
  • Participate in non‑instructional duties such as student advising, committee work, and departmental service as assigned.
  • Engage in professional and personal growth and contribute to committee work at the college level.
  • Travel within the service area as needed, with reasonable accommodation under the ADA.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English or a closely related field (Ph.D. strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience teaching college‑level professional writing, technical communication, or composition courses.
  • Familiarity with generative AI technologies and their applications in workplace communication practices.
  • Experience with Canvas LMS, synchronous video delivery, and distance‑delivery technologies.
  • Student‑centered teaching philosophy emphasizing inclusive pedagogical practices.
  • Preferred:
    Industry or academic experience in professional communication and technical writing; experience using AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Microsoft Copilot; evidence of scholarly engagement with AI communication studies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience contributing to departmental or campus initiatives supporting ethical and responsible use of emerging AI technologies.
  • Innovative approaches to teaching professional writing and composition with a focus on equity, access, and representation.
Start Date

August1,2026.

Compensation

Salary range: $54,000–$95,000 per year, based on education, experience, and internal equity.
