Bald Mountain is an open‑pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.

Job SummaryThe Project Engineer supports the planning, execution, and closeout of capital and operational projects by coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, and cost controls. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, Contractors, and Vendors to drive project success from concept through completion.
EssentialFunctions Project Planning & Execution
- Support development of project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates
- Assist with preparation of AFEs, capital justifications, and budget forecasts
- Coordinate engineering deliverables, design reviews, and constructability input
- Track project milestones and support schedule recovery plans when required
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
- Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to resolve technical issues
- Support management change, including scope changes and cost impacts
- Ensure designs align with site standards, safety requirements, and operational needs
- Provide field oversight and coordination during construction activities
- Support contractor management, including scope clarification and daily coordination
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and site inspections
- Assist with tracking labor hours, quantities installed, and progress reporting
- Track project costs, commitments, and forecasts against approved budgets
- Review invoices, progress payments, and change orders for accuracy
- Support monthly cost reporting and management updates
- Identify cost risks and support mitigation strategies
- Support bid packages, bid evaluations, and contractor/vendor selection
- Coordinate equipment procurement, deliveries, and expediting
- Interface with Supply Chain to ensure compliance with procurement procedures
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure projects comply with safety standards
- Support quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and company requirements
- Support commissioning, punch lists, and turnover to Operations
- Ensure documentation, drawings, and records are complete and archived
- Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement efforts
