Desert Tortoise Field Biologists; Field Based

ERM is hiring experienced Desert Tortoise Field Biologists to conduct pre-project protocol-level surveys for desert tortoise. This is a full-time (60 hours per week) limited-term role of 8 weeks in Beatty, NV.

• Conduct protocol-level desert tortoise surveys.
• Collect electronic data using Field Maps and Survey
  123 applications.
• Work as a member of a large team of biologists.
• Report daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

• BS degree in a natural science field of study preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
• Desert Tortoise Council Training is a plus.
• Minimum of three years of experience on projects that surveyed, monitored, and mitigated for target species; one year of experience conducting presence/absence surveys for desert tortoise is required.
• Familiarity with desert tortoise survey protocols.
• Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain, including walking approximately 5 km per day in desert conditions.
• Working knowledge of sub‑meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
• Strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Work schedule may include weekends and/or overtime.
• Desire to work in the field for extended periods and maintain a positive attitude.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
• Demonstrated independent and effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Possesses a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Annual base pay of $73,148 – $82,290 ($35.16/hr – $39.56/hr) for limited‑term, non‑exempt. Pay is based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business needs. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed‑term employees are not bonus eligible).

Benefits are available to regular employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Fixed‑term employees (including flexforce) scheduled to work 20 hours or more qualify for a limited benefits package. Casual employees are not benefits eligible.
