Job Description Central Sterile Tech - Description
The Central Sterile Processing Technologist ensures that all equipment requiring high level disinfection and alcohol or steam sterilization of equipment used in the OR and satellite areas is performed according to CDC, AAMI standards and manufacturer’s recommendations. The Central Sterile Processing Technologist ensures the adequate functioning of all washing and sterilization equipment, testing and monitoring the equipment to ensure they meet appropriate biologic testing standards.
The Central Sterile Processing Technologist collects, sorts and washes equipment according to best practice standards and/or manufacturer’s instructions. He/she sorts and assembles surgical instruments and equipment according to existing references and/or standards, and wraps them for sterilization. Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use. Ensures the Sterile Processing Area is neat, the required documentation (Joint Commission, CDC, AAMI, other) is maintained, the environment is well organized and equipment is returned to the appropriate area for future use.
The individual is able to work independently with limited supervision. An in-depth understanding of microbiology and AAMI standards, critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving and creative thinking/out of the box thinking to find workable solutions to complex problems is required.
QualificationsAssociates Degree AND 3 years of Sterile Processing or Surgical Scrub Technologist experience; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Central Service Processing Technology Certification preferred, and will be required within 6 months of hire.
