Park Supervisor 1 - Commissioned

The Park Supervisor is responsible for the management of Wild Horse State Recreation Area, located in Northern Elko County. This park is known for its dynamic winter conditions, spectacular fishing, and beautiful views. The park maintains two 24/7 campgrounds and cabin rentals and serves as a base camp for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. Management responsibilities include supervision of employees, budget development, administration and oversight, collection and safeguarding of fees, overall maintenance and operations, and completion of routine and special reports.

This is a commissioned (Law Enforcement) position with public safety responsibilities, subject to Call Back and is required to work various hours and shifts including holidays and weekends in a variety of weather conditions. All personnel in the Park Supervisor series are responsible for ensuring a high level of customer service, developing and presenting a variety of visitor programs, performing ground/facility maintenance and custodial duties.

In addition, the successful candidate should have a knowledge of natural resource management and recreation and administrative expertise. Park Supervisors, at this level, are often required to determine the most applicable natural resource approach. They are also required to provide training and career development for their staff, identify facility/grounds maintenance needs and determine the most cost effect way to coordinate equipment and materials.

Park residency is mandatory, in state park provided housing.

As a state park peace officer, incumbents write citations, make arrests, handle accidents and incidents, resolve disputes, keep the peace, and respond to emergency situations as required. Live-in law enforcement academy training will be provided, if not currently NV POST certified. The cost of the academy will be paid by the agency. The physical agility exam consists of: a) Vertical jump of no less than 14 inches;

b) The Illinois Agility Run in 19.5 seconds or less; c) complete not less than 30 sit-ups in 1 minute; d) complete not less than 23 consecutive push-ups; e) 300 meter run in 68 seconds or less; f) 1.5 mile run/walk in 16 minutes and 57 seconds or less; g) lift and carry a 70-90 pound bag of cement/sand from the ground and carry 10 feet to tailgate of a standard pick-up truck and then return, repeated three times;

h) 100 yard swim in 5 minutes.

Park Supervisors (Commissioned) plan, organize, oversee and participate in the administration, law enforcement, maintenance, interpretive programs and resource management of an assigned State park.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, ecology, forestry, biology, criminal justice or related field and two years of journey level park ranger experience including park operation, maintenance and interpretation of park facilities; OR two years of experience as a Park Ranger II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Develop and administer the park budget; prepare and submit budget proposals and project needs; plan and approve purchases; and establish and monitor spending plans.

Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; develop work programs and performance standards; delegate and review assignments; counsel staff and take disciplinary action as appropriate; and coordinate special work programs with community organizations, volunteers and federal, State and local agencies.

Prepare and submit reports on all aspects of park operation and maintenance; attend public, agency and interagency meetings; manage equipment and property inventories; may administer leases, concessions and management agreements; monitor construction projects; develop and maintain the park's operational plan; oversee employee and visitor safety programs; and manage employee residences.
