Position: Burn Operator / Material Handler Trainee

Position Summary

The Burn Table Operator Trainee / Material Handler Trainee is an entry-level position responsible for learning and assisting with metal cutting operations, warehouse functions, and material movement activities in a manufacturing environment. This role will work closely with experienced operators and production teams to develop skills related to burning operations, blueprint reading, material handling, warehouse support, and equipment operation while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Burn Table & Cutting Operations
  • Learn to operate oxy-fuel, plasma, and other cutting equipment under supervision.
  • Assist with setting up cutting equipment according to work orders, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Learn proper machine settings, material placement, and cutting procedures to meet production requirements.
  • Assist experienced operators with cutting operations and equipment setup activities.
Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and blueprints.
  • Assist in identifying material types, dimensions, and cutting specifications.
  • Verify material requirements prior to processing.
Warehouse & Material Handling Responsibilities
  • Pull plate and materials for burn operations according to production schedules and work orders.
  • Stage materials for production teams and ensure material availability.
  • Grind materials and parts as required to support production operations.
  • Return unused materials and plate back to stock locations while maintaining organization and inventory accuracy.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and organizing raw materials throughout the warehouse and production areas.
  • Maintain material traceability and proper identification procedures.
Quality & Production Support
  • Inspect completed parts and materials for quality and accuracy.
  • Learn measurement techniques and quality standards.
  • Assist in identifying production issues and communicating concerns to supervisors.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform basic cleaning and preventive maintenance activities on equipment.
  • Learn troubleshooting techniques and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and material handling guidelines.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles.
Teamwork & Documentation
  • Work closely with warehouse, production, and operations teams to support production goals.
  • Accurately complete production documentation and material tracking activities.
  • Participate in training opportunities and cross-functional learning activities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school, manufacturing coursework, or technical training preferred but not required.
Experience
  • Manufacturing, warehouse, labor, or industrial experience preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience using hand tools, grinders, or material handling equipment is a plus.
  • Entry-level candidates willing to learn are encouraged to apply.
Skills
  • Strong willingness to learn manufacturing and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in an industrial environment.
  • Basic math and measurement skills preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in hot, noisy, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  • Ability to safely handle raw materials and operate around moving equipment.

Growth Opportunity:
This position is designed as a development role with opportunities to progress into Burn Table Operator, Production Operator, or other manufacturing positions as skills and experience are gained.
