Regional Training & Competency Assurance Specialist

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Regional Training & Competency Assurance Specialist to join our NGM Safety, Health, and Training team. The successful candidate will engage with several key internal and external stakeholders to initiate and support safe and responsible mining operations.

The Regional Training & Competency Assurance Specialist provides independent assurance of training quality, regulatory compliance, and workforce competency across Nevada Gold Mines. The position partners with site leadership to verify training effectiveness, evaluate workforce competency, identify opportunities for improvement, and promote consistent implementation of regional training standards and governance.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training assurance, workforce competency verification, and field engagement activities across Nevada Gold Mines operations.
  • Conduct training assurance reviews to verify compliance with regional training standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify training records, competency records, qualification records, and Learning Management System documentation are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with company requirements.
  • Verify audits of training records, competency records, qualification records, and Learning Management System documentation.
  • Support regulatory inspections, compliance reviews, and internal audits as required.
  • Conduct trainer, field trainer, and assessor qualification reviews to verify individuals meet established qualification requirements.
  • Review training delivery practices to ensure consistency with approved curriculum, instructional materials, and training methodologies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and identify opportunities to improve training quality and consistency across all operations.
  • Conduct competency verifications across Surface, Underground, Process, and Maintenance operations.
  • Verify employees maintain required task and equipment competencies in accordance with company qualification standards.
  • Assess employee understanding of operating procedures, hazards, critical controls, risk management practices, and task requirements.
  • Evaluate competency retention following initial qualification and ongoing workforce development.
  • Verify competency requirements align with established qualification standards and approved qualification pathways.
  • Conduct routine field engagements to observe work activities, evaluate work practices, and verify training requirements are effectively transferred to the workplace.
  • Observe work execution to evaluate competency, consistency, and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Planned Task Observations (PTOs) and verify they are conducted consistently and effectively.
  • Conduct annual, risk-based, and follow-up competency verification activities to validate workforce competency and identify competency degradation over time.
  • Assess supervisor engagement in workforce development, coaching, and competency verification activities.
  • Provide constructive coaching and feedback to employees, supervisors, and site training personnel to improve workforce competency and training effectiveness.
  • Partner with site leadership to develop corrective action plans and verify effective implementation of identified improvements.
  • Identify competency gaps, compliance deficiencies, trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce development through positive field engagement, mentoring, and operational coaching.
