SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE

The Lead Facilities Technician provides maintenance, repair, and oversight of Elko County facilities, buildings, and grounds. This role will act as Facilities Manager in the absence of the Facilities Manager. The incumbent will receive general supervision from the Facilities Manager and Assistant County Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of Elko County buildings, grounds, and other facilities.
  • Organize and plan projects, staff daily duties, short-term/long-term, and prioritize projects with the Facilities Manager.
  • Review, prioritize, and assign tickets from the work order system.
  • Advise and consult with the Manager of project/work status.
  • Participates in snow removal operations, as needed.
  • Maintain and service a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Enter basic data into the computer, including maintaining records of work performed and materials used.
  • Assist in developing the yearly budget.
  • Organize and maintain all department invoices to be paid, and prepare all claim forms to receive department head approval for payment of invoices. Process the appropriate method of payment.
  • Reconciles all department credit card purchases.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local laws, safety rules, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for self and others. Observe safe work methods and use of safety equipment; secure work sites from traffic hazards; attend safety meetings. Check job sites for potential hazards, including confined space.
  • Responsible for a safe working environment for slips, trips, and falls, confined spaces, work zones, and traffic control.
  • Comply with Elko County Policies and department procedures.
  • Ability to act in the absence of the Facilities Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year of skilled experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Must maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug screenings.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Safe work methods and safety regulations about the work.
  • Appropriate use and maintenance of hand and power tools and other equipment commonly used for basic laborer tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Budget and Planning
  • General working knowledge of building maintenance principles and practices.
  • Basic mathematical knowledge.
SKILLS
  • Performing basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Identifying the appropriate tools and equipment needed for a task on relatively short notice.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding and carrying out complex written and oral communications.
  • Managing time effectively.
  • Using the tools and equipment listed below.
ABILITIES
  • Precisely read and understand manuals, blueprints, drawings, maps, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Safely perform basic troubleshooting techniques and electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Identify the appropriate tools and equipment needed for a task on relatively short notice and the ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all individuals, the employee may encounter, including the general public.
  • Ability to make major decisions in the field with minimal supervision both safety and operational.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift at least 100 lbs. to the waist and carry that weight for 25'.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand or walk.
  • While performing the duties of this job, most of the work is outside in varying weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or airborne particles. In addition, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate in the field.
