Heavy Duty Mechanic
Working as a Heavy Duty Mechanic at our Elko, BC sawmill, you’ll play a key role in keeping our mobile and heavy equipment operating safely and reliably. From preventative maintenance and diagnostics to complex repairs, you’ll use your technical expertise to support uptime, equipment reliability, and safe mill operations. This is a full‑time, permanent position based in Elko, BC. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
What you will do as a Heavy Duty Mechanic- Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy‑duty mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and technical knowledge to identify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues and determine appropriate repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and component replacements to support equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Follow all company safety standards, regulatory requirements, lockout procedures, and safe work practices while working in an industrial environment.
- Complete work orders, maintenance records, parts requests, and related documentation accurately and on time.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring equipment issues and recommending practical reliability improvements.
- Work collaboratively with maintenance and operations to keep the sawmill running safely and efficiently.
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification or an Interprovincial/Provincial Certificate of Qualification; equivalent Canadian trade certification may be considered.
- Previous experience maintaining and repairing heavy‑duty mobile equipment in an industrial, forestry, mining, construction, transportation, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with practical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, drive trains, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostic tools.
- A strong commitment to safety, including the ability to follow lockout procedures, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements in a mill environment.
- A valid driver’s licence, the physical ability to perform the full scope of the role, and the flexibility to support overtime or shift coverage when required.
- Experience in a sawmill, lumber manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment is considered an asset.
The hourly rate for this position is $50.115 per hour.
