This position is located in Elko, Nevada. NDOT is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as a Fleet Service Worker 3. The role involves a variety of maintenance and operational tasks, including servicing equipment, positioning vehicles, and ensuring a safe work environment.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance: lubricate parts, change oil and filters, tune engines, order parts, and make minor repairs to keep equipment in proper working condition.
- Examine vehicle/equipment records or preventive maintenance schedules to determine service needs; create requisitions for filters and parts; check fluid levels and replace filters in engine, transmission, hydraulic and fuel systems.
- Replace spark plugs and wires, brakes, distributor cap and rotor; change belts, hoses, batteries and lamps; repack wheel bearings; conduct safety inspection of systems and components; code repair tasks and maintain work records.
- Repair or replace tires and rims, including tire removal, deflation, repair/replacement, reassembly, inflation, balancing and mounting.
- Wash and detail vehicles/equipment to maintain a presentable appearance; steam clean engines, windows, upholstery and carpets.
- Assist mechanics and storekeepers by picking up, delivering, and returning equipment and parts; verify invoices and credit memos.
- Reserve vehicles for employees, fuel vehicles/equipment, collect usage data, prepare summary reports, and schedule vehicles/equipment for service.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience diagnosing and performing basic vehicle/equipment repairs and adjustments; performing preventive maintenance on a variety of vehicles/equipment; maintaining vehicle/equipment records and reports; OR one year of experience as a Fleet Service Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Other RequirementsWorking knowledge of automotive repair principles, preventive maintenance, and hand/power tools for vehicle/equipment adjustment and repair.
Ability to work independently, follow through assignments with minimal direction, and interact diplomatically with vehicle/equipment users to explain policies and resolve complaints.
Skill in performing preventive maintenance activities, diagnosing routine mechanical/electrical failures, and determining necessary repairs for light, medium, and heavy vehicles/equipment.
