Key job responsibilities include demonstrating expertise in carbon arc gouging and oxy/fuel torch operations to execute precise metal cutting and preparation tasks. Interpret weld symbols accurately and possess advanced proficiency in reading and understanding technical prints and blueprints. Operate rigging equipment and overhead cranes safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with certification requirements. Exhibit strong skills in fitting and layout operations to prepare components accurately before welding.
Utilize a broad range of welding electrodes with proficiency and adapt techniques to varying materials and specifications. Perform carbon arc gouging with precision, contributing to high-quality repair and fabrication work. Successfully achieve weld certifications in line with Joy Global/Komatsu Quality standards, demonstrating commitment to quality assurance. Apply advanced trade mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions, to solve complex measurement and fabrication challenges.
Interpret complex drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and handbook formulas to ensure accuracy in project execution. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments proficiently to verify dimensions and tolerances during inspection and setup. Analyze, update, and maintain detailed reports, forms, and records, supporting effective data collection and communication within the team. Exhibit mechanical aptitude and competence in reading and utilizing machinist measuring instruments to support quality control processes.
Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry practices, welding technologies, and safety regulations.
Qualifications/requirements include a minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience working with carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding electrodes, specifically with 1/16" and 3/32" diameters. Ability to successfully pass a 1" weld certification test encompassing positions 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G using FCAW within the first 90 days of employment. Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting welding blueprints and performing precise welds that meet stringent quality standards.
Solid understanding of welding safety protocols and the ability to consistently apply these in a shop environment. Strong mathematical skills relevant to trades, enabling effective measurement, calculation, and adherence to technical specifications. Excellent problem-solving abilities with a mechanical aptitude for maintaining and repairing welding equipment and related tooling. Ability to work collaboratively within a team while independently managing individual workload to meet deadlines.
Commitment to continuous learning and skills development within the welding trade and associated technologies. Flexibility to adapt to varying shift schedules or assignments as necessary to meet production demands. Effective communication skills to facilitate clear and respectful interaction with colleagues and supervisors.
