The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Offsider to join our team at a project location approximately 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada. Reporting to the Underground Supervisor, the successful candidate will assist the mining team to achieve daily targets while working closely with underground operators, ensuring all tasks meet safety standards, targets, and deadlines to maximize productivity and profitability.
Location: 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada
Shift: 14 days on / 14 days off rotation
Accommodation: Camp and meals provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate commitment to following all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others.
- Act in a manner that enhances the safety culture and performance at Barminco.
- Collect, deliver and ensure all necessary materials are delivered as required.
- Assist Jumbo Operator to build ground support and perform underground boring operations such as installing rock bolts and mesh.
- Set up headings to provide ground support using mesh, split sets, and resin bolts.
- Observe experienced workers to gain and increase knowledge of methods, procedures, and performance standards; attain necessary skills to assist the jumbo operator as required.
- Assist with face preparation for drilling and installation of ground support.
- Coupling and decoupling of jumbo power cables.
- Install lifter tubes to lifters.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in LV’s, storage areas underground and work areas.
- Install mine services and ventilation as required.
- Conduct risk assessments for job tasks.
- Record all shift data accurately and on time (delays, locations, directions, etc.).
- Document work performed, problems diagnosed, pre-checks on equipment, and other required paperwork.
- Immediately report problems or failures that may impact the team or the company to the Shift Supervisor.
- Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client, and all personnel.
- Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor, as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous underground mining experience would be preferred.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License
; manual transmission experience is an asset. - Self-motivated and energetic; enjoys hard work and highly physical roles.
- Sound planning, time management and organizational skills.
- Attend all designated rostered days; punctuality with shift start times and a timely commencement of work activities. Arrive fit for work every rostered shift.
- Willingness to be flexible and work in other roles.
- Teamwork and willingness to cooperate with and learn from the team.
- Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with professionalism and self-motivation.
- Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Able to effectively prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Good radio etiquette and strong communications skills.
- Eagerness to learn and grow.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol test.
Work Conditions:
- Shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/night shift), typically 14 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 14 weeks off, with statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation.
- Physical demands include communicating, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, pushing/pulling, and working in awkward positions.
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required.
- Extreme weather conditions and moderate to high noise levels.
