Job Title: Director of Electrical Engineering

Location: Elkridge, MD

Position type: FULLTIME Permanent

Rate: DOE

The Director of Electrical Engineering is the senior technical and operational leader responsible for overseeing all electrical engineering projects, teams, and deliverables. This role ensures engineering excellence, system reliability, project execution, and cross-departmental collaboration across production, ATO, panel building, and systems integration programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage electrical engineering teams (design, panel building, ATO, field technicians).
  • Oversee development, testing, and approval of electrical diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Ensure compliance with national electrical codes (NEC), industry standards, and internal quality SOPs.
  • Improve and standardize workflows across ATO, panel builds, and kits programs.
  • Approve bill of materials, component selections, and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Support production with troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and technical guidance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (operations, procurement, QA, HR) to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Implement training systems for technicians and new hires.
  • Drive continuous improvement, efficiency, and automation opportunities.
  • Report directly to COO/CEO with engineering KPIs, risks, and production timelines.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years electrical engineering experience (industrial, manufacturing, or automation preferred).
  • Proven leadership of engineering teams or projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical diagrams, PLCs, controls, and industrial components.
  • Ability to design, review, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and leadership ability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field preferred.
